Today you get to rest your muscles. We thought this would be a good time to list our top non fruit smoothies of all time.

Let’s talk about smoothies. They’re a fantastic way to pack a bunch of produce into a single meal, but throw in a handful of mango, a cup of strawberries, and a banana and you’ve also packed your smoothie with a lot of sugar. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing! Fruit is still super healthy. But if you’re doing a serious sugar detox, you may need to cut fruit out of your diet temporarily.

That doesn’t mean you have to skip those morning smoothies, though. These 5 sippables range from sweet to savory and they all have one thing in common: they’re no-fruit smoothies (with a tiny exception: two smoothies do have lemon). Want to give them a try?

cinnamon spice butternut squash parfait

Okay, so there’s maple syrup in this recipe, but roasted butternut squash is sweet enough that you can totally skip it if you want. With cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg, this is reminiscent of pumpkin pie. A gloriously cinnamon-y parfait that is so filling you could eat this for dinner! The inspiration behind using butternut squash today came from Instagram star and cookbook author, Lina Saber of RadiantPlantLife . She is conducting a television show competition featured on Instagram and I am so glad she does! She tosses out ingredients, and competitors create. I came up with a parfait smoothie using this fantastic vegetable, Butternut squash, and the result is a spicy yet sweet smoothie that is full of nutrients and fiber, perfect for a seasonal drink. Enjoy! INGREDIENTS * 1 cup plant milk * 1 1/2 cup roasted buttermilk squash * 3 tbsp maple syrup * 2 tbsps hemp hearts * 1 tsp cinnamon * 1 tsp vanilla * 1/2 tsp nutmeg METHOD Slice the butternut squash in half, scoop out seeds, chop and roast on a cookie sheet (without oil) for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool, then toss in a blender with other ingredients! Top with cinnamon and yogurt and serve chilled! So delicious!

Ingredients Approximately one cup (100 grams) of frozen sweet potato, previously roasted and chopped (see note below in recipe) 1½ cups milk (cow, soy, almond - your choice) 1 scoop protein powder of choice 2 teaspoons instant espresso powder or instant coffee ½ to 1 teaspoon cinnamon, to taste 1 teaspoon vanilla Instructions 1. In advance, roast one sweet potato at 450 for approximately 40-45 minutes, until easily pierced with a fork. Allow to cool, chop into ½ to one inch cubes, and freeze for at least an hour. 2. Place all ingredients to a blender. Blend thoroughly until smooth. 3. Notes 4. I don't recommend making the shake in advance - it's really best when the sweet potatoes are ice cold.
