Major Spoiler Alert! No Joke
Joker set a new box-office record for NC-16 movies in Singapore after it pulled in S$1.89 million between Oct. 3 and 6.
Even as the movie made the audience uncomfortable, Joaquin Phoenix’s stellar performance has been praised.

And for those who cannot get enough of the movie’s insanity, here are 10 quotes that many but not all of you can relate to
#1: “Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?”
Arthur Fleck says this while speaking to a social worker.
The social worker then responds, saying: “It is certainly tense. People are upset, they’re struggling, looking for work. These are tough times. How about you? Have you been keeping up with your journal?”
#2: “I just hope my death makes more cents than my life.”
Fleck is shown to keep a journal, which contains his thoughts and scribbles.
In it, it is shown that he wrote: “I just hope my death makes more cents than my life
#3: “Are you having any negative thoughts? All I have are negative thoughts.”
While speaking to the social worker, he insists that she doesn’t listen to him and only asks the same questions all the time.
Bonus quote: “For my whole life, I didn’t know if I even really existed. But I do, and people are starting to notice.”
Fleck says this while speaking to the social worker, after he tells her that all he has are negative thoughts.
#4: “The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don’t.”
In Fleck’s journal, he also takes notes on what he considers to be jokes.
This quote can be seen in one of his journal pages.
#5: “I mean, don’t you have to be funny to be a comedian?”
Fleck, who aspires to be a standup comedian, tells his mother not to worry about financial matters.
He says that everybody is telling him that his standup is “ready for the big clubs”.
His mother then asks: “What makes you think you could do that? Don’t you have to be funny to be a comedian?”
#6: “I don’t want anything from you. Maybe a little warmth, maybe a hug, dad, maybe a bit of common decency!”
Fleck finds out that his mother has been writing letters to Thomas Wayne because, according to her, he is his father.
Subsequently, he manages to confront Wayne privately in a bathroom, who denies the fact and insists that his mother is delusional.
Fleck gets agitated during their exchange, and says:
“I know it seems strange, I don’t mean to make you uncomfortable, I don’t know why everyone is so rude, I don’t know why you are; I don’t want anything from you. Maybe a little warmth, maybe a hug dad, maybe a bit of common decency!”
Fleck then gets punched in the face. Oof.
#7: “When you bring me out, can you introduce me as Joker?”
Franklin agrees.
#8: “Well, no one’s laughing now”
Fleck says this when he is on the Murray Franklin show:
“It’s funny, when I was a little boy, and told people I was going to be a comedian, everyone laughed at me. Well, no one’s laughing now.”
He then subsequently admits to killing the men on the subway.
#9: Social worker: “Do you mind telling it (the joke)?”
Fleck: “…You wouldn’t get it.”
While at Arkham State Hospital, Fleck bursts out in laughter.
The social worker asks if something is funny, and Fleck says that he just thought of a funny joke.
However, when asked to share it, he stated that she wouldn’t get it.
#10: “I used to think that my life was a tragedy. But now I realise, it’s a comedy.”
