In today’s equivalent of unfriending your ex on Facebook, The Weeknd has quietly unfollowed his ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid on Instagram.
It appears his new girlfriend Selena Gomez has too, though it isn’t clear how recently Selena did:
Both Selena and The Weeknd are still following Bella’s sister Gigi. For Selena, the reasons are maybe more obvious: she and Gigi are both close friends with Taylor Swift and were key members of Taylor’s squad in its heyday.
For now, both Bella and Gigi Hadid still follow The Weeknd.
And Gigi also follows Selena. (Bella unfollowed Selena back when reports of the two dating first broke in January.)
Selena and The Weeknd’s Bella unfollow comes less than two weeks after The Weeknd seemingly gave Bella a shoutout in his new music video, “I Feel It Coming.” In it, his love interest—who looks a bit like Bella in the right light—turns to stone and breaks after they try to kiss, marking the end of that affair.
The move also comes exactly a month after he appeared on Future’s single “Comin’ Out Strong,” singing what some believe to be a jab at her. The lyrics, annotated
“I know she wanna be poppin’ all over the ‘Gram [a possible call out to Bella’s Instagram popularity]/When the cameras come out, wanna hold my hand [a suggestion that with all the hand-holding paparazzi shots of them, she was exploiting the relationship for publicity]/Must be out of your mind, do you know who I am?/Man you’re killin’ my vibe, do you know who I am
Both Selena and The Weeknd have made it very clear on their Instagrams that they’re dating, and they want everyone to know it. Most recently, The Weeknd took three shots of Selena in his Instagram story during a Toronto date at the aquarium. That move comes after the two traveled Europe together (twice!), and Selena appeared in several shots wearing The Weeknd’s clothes and tour merch.
Meanwhile, Bella spoke to Teen Vogue in February about how she’s trying to stay cordial with The Weeknd. “I’ll always respect him, and I’ll always love him. Sometimes you want to be sad about it or handle it differently, but at the end of the day, you never want to burn a bridge that you’ve fought so hard to build.” Welp, The Weeknd may not agree right now
