Something fun for the holiday from Chappelle’s new Netflix special, “Sticks and Stones.” Not as fun but still sort of fun is googling around to see how critics on the left are processing his set, which mocks “cancel culture.” Some want to signal their contempt but not so aggressively that they’re accused of sour grapes after Chappelle’s jokes hit too close to home. So, to them, this is a more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger thing — the special is a mid-life crisis or temper tantrum. Dave let us down.

Other critics go right for the throat, though. “All the Worst White People Love Dave Chappelle’s Sticks and Stones,” laments a writer at The Root. “The aftermath of this special is a growing allegiance from one of the most hate-filled sections of the internet and the country today,” adds another at Complex. If you’re one of those misguided few who think Americans can still find common ground in the greatness of a performer like Chappelle, alas, no.
But maybe we can find common ground in this bit, at least? The second half cracked me up. Lots of profanity here, needless to say, so adjust your sound options accordingly.
