Like a second skin. The Octo Finissimo. lts finesse and lightness have, since it was first introduced, earned it a unique status as a watchmaking icon. Like a second skin, the watch bears a message of identity. A different, unusual subject: Three men – Laurent Picciotto, founder and owner of Chronopassion in Paris, one of the most influential figures in contemporary watchmaking; Mo Coppoletta, an aesthete renowned for his art of artistic tattooing in London; and Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Executive Director of Product Creation at Bulgari – turned their gaze on the language of art engraved on the skin and reinterpreted it on the surface of the Octo Finissimo, with a mastery of lines, shapes, volumes, and angles. A gaze that captures our times.

The art of the tattoo is an ancestral, pluricultural. Today, as a form of individual self­ expression, the tattoo is wholly considered as an art form, with its own currents, its own styles, from abstract to portrait, from the figurative to hyperrealism, from tribal to modern.

Tattooing is evolving at a staggering pace. Rising from the streets, it has opened itself up to other techniques, new styles and, above all, to artists each with their own visual and cultural background – such as Mo Coppoletta, art director and designer.

The Octo Finissimo Tattoo Acqua captures this contemporary artistic trend, exploring a practice that has its origins in tribal traditions. A language of identity, revealing its artistic dimension through its history and its contemporary revival. Today, tattoo artists continue to innovate and push the boundaries of expressive possibilities – as they would with any “conventional” medium, combining technical skills, precision, creativity, a sense of aesthetics and artistic daring. lndeed, there are many commonalities with contemporary watchmaking, of which the Octo Finissimo has become an icon.

Where the first opus in the series, the Octo Finissimo Tattoo Aria created in 2021 and themed on the natural element of air, represented clouds, it is water, rendered with waves – the face of the wild, powerful and untamed forces of the ocean – that captured the imagination of the three men this year.

Through the pattern of intertwined waves symbolising bath power and transience, the metal (titanium, which is integral to the Octo Finissimo’s DNA), spatial volumes and surfaces of the Octo Finissimo Tattoo Aria find themselves truly transcended by the graphie artistry. The watch presents a fluid face of curves in a natural pattern of waves, contrasting with the Octo’s architectural design and geometric features. The visual rendition, laser-engraved to transpose the artistic vision with utmost precision, is dazzling.

What we see on the skin of some people could just as easily be found on a canvas. What I found exciting in this project was to decorate an abject so thin that it would be an extension of the wearer’s wrist.”

This exceptional watch has a total thickness of only 5,15 mm thanks to the extra-thin self-winding movement, which itself is just 2,23 mm thin and made possible by, among other things, a platinum micro-rotor.A true engineering prowess, the power reserve extends to 60 hours.
