Miss Universe Pageant‬‬ is an annual international beauty pageant that is run by the Miss Universe Organization.
It is held in more than 190 countries worldwide and seen by more than half a billion people annually.

The preliminary competition started on Thursday will reduce the crowded field to the top 12
candidates for the pageant night, the Miss Universe website said.
Over half a million people are expected to tune in to watch the coronation night next week, organizers said.

During the early years of the pageant, the delegates who made the first cut were announced after the preliminary
competition. From 1965 to the present day, the semifinalists were not announced until the night of the main event.
The semifinalists once again competed in evening gown and swimsuit and five finalists were announced.
An interview portion was introduced in 1960 to decide the runners-up and the winner.

Miss Universe 2016 will be crowned on January 30, 2017 it was skipped a year (2016) for unknown reasons. The first time this occurred was when Miss Universe 2014 was held in
January 2015.In Miss Universe 2016, however, the usual Top 15/16 cut is now down to Top 12 to compete in the swimsuit competition. This will be cut again to Top 9, to compete for the evening gown competition. This will be narrowed down to Top 6 for the question and answer then Top 3 for the final look competition.

Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

The current Miss Universe is Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines who was crowned on 20 December 2015.
