This venus fly trap and butterfly is part of the limited edition Carnivorous Plants slay my hair collection; hats inspired by the hungry plants found all over the world who are nourished by insects and small animals. This hat is inspired by perhaps the most famous of the bunch, the venus fly trap. This plant catches it’s prey with incredibly sensitive hairs on the inside of it’s mouth-like body, when the hairs are triggered the plant snaps close for hours to digest the insect inside. One of the grandest of the collection, this hat is no wallflower.
The body of the venus fly trap is made of several pieces of buckram that are covered in green wild silk and hand painted, the inside of the deadly mouth is made of pink velvet. Caught in the jaws of the plant is an exquisitely hand painted silk butterfly that looks so real you might think it could escape. The body and antennas of the butterfly are made with specially cut feathers. The fascinator stays on with a custom made wire band that affixes in several places.
