Forget everything you know about dry shampoo. Jen Atkin, the woman behind the perfectly undone, I-woke-up-like-this beach waves of the Kardashian and Hadid sisters, is about to release the year’s most anticipated new beauty product so far. The newest addition to her cultish, Insta-famous line, Ouai, is a game-changing, on-the-go refresher that is beneficial for basically anyone with hair.
“It’s like a trip to the dry cleaner,” says Atkin, calling from a business trip to Dubai, of her non-spray product. The secret is in the foamy, mousse-like texture that dries instantly when worked through roots. To use it, simply “take a golf ball–size amount and rub it directly into your scalp,” she explains, and bring it all the way down to the ends. Contrary to what you might think about mousse, the moisture won’t ruin a blowout or even weigh down hair. “It acts as an eraser, magically removing any product buildup or impurities,” Atkin says, noting that it adds subtle volume and a workable, soft feel. And the technique doesn’t require a master’s hand: “It’s a no-brainer,” she says. Apply it as a last step post blow-dry for hair that’s clean, perfectly textured, and always keeps up with the Kardashians.
