Celebrations for Diwali, the Indian light festival which celebrates the victory of light over darkness, have begun taking place. This year the festival falls on Monday 24th October and restaurants across the capital are showing their support and celebrating with feasting menus, thalis and Indian sweet treats. 
From Michelin-star restaurants to tasting menus worth trying, these are the best Diwali celebratory menus in London.       

Gymkhana

Everyone’s favourite Indian restaurant, Gymkhana, is celebrating the Festival of Lights with a bespoke Diwali tasting menu. Crafted by their Executive Chef Sid Ahuja, prepare for an epic feast filled with fragrant flavours and rich meats. 
Priced at £110 per person with the opportunity to add a wine pairing on top, the menu features the likes of beetroot raj kachori, tamarina and sev; goan cafreal salmon tikka with tomato chutney; chicken butter masala; and a sweet of safford pistachio kulfi falooda. A vegetarian tasting menu is also available for £100 per person.

Chef Patron Will Bowlby has created a menu that’s set to impress. Available at their industrial-style White City restaurant, the menu is centred around a traditional thali feast – think cheva and papads with chutney; Jerusalem artichoke gujiya; leek and potato samosa; delica pumpkin kachori; and brown butter laccha paratha. Finish off your night with a selection of Indian sweets, from gulab jamun to pumpkin ka halwa.

Yaatra
Yaatra, the brand new restaurant at the Old Westminster Fire Station, will be offering a limited-edition menu to celebrate Diwali. The restaurant will be blending the culture and cooking styles from famous Indian cities to little known villages with this special feasting menu, complete with a sparkling cocktail on arrival. 

Kicking things off in style will be the grand sharing kebab platter featuring Amritsari prawn, tawa masala sea bass, Achari chicken tikka, and lamb chops. This will be followed with a curry sensation, including traditional butter chicken, lamb Rogan Josh, Awadhi lamb biryani and a juicy prawn Malai curry. There’ll even be a vegetarian menu on offer too. 
Finish the deal with an indulgent Gulab Jamun, India’s most cherished festival dessert made from a fried dough and soaked in syrup.

Bindas Eatery
Bindas Eatery, meaning free spirit and without inhibitions in Punjabi, serves up the best of Indian cuisines, from North to South, East to West. Located just by Westfield White City, the restaurant will be celebrating Diwali in its fullest by unveiling a selection of new dishes to try. 
Tuck into an array of traditional and modern plates, including aloo tikki chaat, a spiced potato cake served with whipped feta, chilli jam, beetroot slaw, coriander and sev; ra ra biriyani, lamb shoulder and lamb mince biryani layered with spices and herbs; and butterscotch and saffron kulfi cake jars with popcorn. 
Pair your evening with one of their house favourite cocktails, from the gulabi rani, made with rose gin, elderflower presse, rose syrup and rose petals to the peshwa, a mix of orange and cardamom old fashioned bourbon, bitters, homemade cardamom syrup, ice and orange peel.

The Cinnamon Collection

Executive Chef Vivek Singh and his talented team are going all out with the special occasion. Over at Cinnamon Kitchen City, they will be marking the Festival of Light with a nine-course sharing feast, featuring dishes such as goan stir-fried shrimps, grilled pink aubergine with peanut crumble, samosa chaat and the restaurant’s signature dish, Kashmiri-style lamb Rogan Josh. 
Pulling out all of the stops, The Cinnamon Club will be dishing out a decadent five-course sharing feast. Nestled amongst the Grade-II Old Westminster Library, begin your night with a festive cocktail and nibbles of shammi kebab and chickpea and yoghurt gnocchi. Signature mains include jackfruit and lotus root kebab; Kokum crusted halibut; Old Delhi-style butter chicken; and clove smoked saddle of lamb. Finish with a trio of sweet treats, coffee and petit fours.

Babur
Crowned ‘London’s Best Asian Restaurant’ at the Asian Restaurant Awards 2022, you know you’re in safe hands when it comes to Babur. The famed Forest Hill restaurant will be putting on a show this Diwali, packed with a menu of Kasundi king prawns with Bengali mustards, spiced puff rice and green papaya murabba; or a veggie thali with paneer makai tawa masala, green bean fogath, dal makhni, aloo gobi, mustard raita, pulao rice and a mini naan bread.

For those wanting something sweet, top the night off with Babur’s signature dessert flatter, with spiced apricot and fig crumble, stem ginger and honey kulfi, raspberry sorbet, chocolate gelato, praline dust, and mixed berry compote.

Jamavar
Michelin-starred Indian restaurant, Jamavar, will be launching a limited-edition menu inspired by the culinary traditions observed throughout India’s diverse regions at this special time of year.  
Executive Chef Surender Mohan has crafted a bespoke menu, featuring small plates of Kawari soft crab with blueberry ginger chutney and garlic; and duck galouti spiced with black cardamom, chillies and served with a wholewheat paratha. 

Expect to find Jamavar’s signature Old Delhi butter chicken; Rarah gosht, made of Hampshire lamb and mince spiced with sun-dried chillies and tomato. There’ll be plenty of vegetarian options too – think kofta dilkhush, gucchi mutter and gondhoraj malai broccoli topped with freshly grated lime zest, cream cheese, chillies and pepper. 
The evening will finish with a traditional dessert of heritage carrots, cardamom and clotted cream topped with pistachios – yum.
