This white and purple fascinator is part of the Carnivorous Plants collection; hats inspired by the hungry plants found all over the world who are nourished by insects and small animals. This hat is an abstraction inspired by the pitcher plant, found across the world. This sneaky plant attracts insects with a pool of sweet nectar that ensnares them and makes their wings useless, the ribbed edge of their pitcher also makes it impossible for them to climb out.

The base of the hat is made of buckram and covered with white silk which is then painted with purple tones. The plant like cups are made of stiffened white silk that have been delicately painted with purple middles and graceful veins. Inside each cup is a pool of epoxy, that looks like the sweet nectar pools of the pitcher plant. Glass bead glisten on the edges of the cups like dew collecting on the plants. Tall spires of painted and stiffened silk in the back make a home for a handmade fly who ought to stay where he is if he wants to be safe. The fascinator stays on with an elastic band.

Pitchers don't have butterflies

Be that pitcher that every hitter is afraid to face

Don't let the pretty face fool you, I'm a beast on the field

If you talk to any pitcher, consistency is the most important thing

The wise adapt themselves to circumstances as water moulds to the pitcher
