France's first couple

Get to know France’s first couple

Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron’s relationship has been under public scrutiny since the election (and perhaps even before) for its unconventional nature: he is 25 years younger than her, and she used to be his drama teacher. Although the two have been married since 2007, the public doubted the legitimacy of their relationship considering the age gap. Macron cited misogyny for such views. “There is a big problem with the presentation of society and how they see the place of a woman,” he said when addressing the public’s obsession with Trogneux’s age.

Here, we take a look at some of the couple’s sweetest moments together, from the campaign trail, to the election and beyond.
