Takabisha is the steepest roller coaster in the world. It starts riders off in the dark with a surprise drop and inversion in complete darkness. Then they’re propelled upwards through a tunnel at 60 miles (100 km) per hour outside on a huge loop. After a few loops and corkscrews, the cart slowly climbs at a 90 degree angle, 43 meters straight up into the sky which leads into a drop at 120 degrees angle. Yeap, 120 degrees.

Advertised as the “Cliffhanger”, the train is pulled up a lift hill to a horizontal platform. The track then tilts until it is completely vertical, drops down into a tunnel, turns 180 degrees and emerges to enter the vertical loop.

It may not look scary but, trust me this is insane. As soon as it starts the cart gets rocketed forward at 128 miles (206 km) per hour and, at that speed, its propelled straight up the 90 degree track and speed right over the top of the hump right into the tallest roller coaster drop in the world. It only lasts 25 seconds but, oh boy, is it intense.

The Joker opened on May 29, 2016, in replacement of a former wooden roller coaster called the Roar. The ride includes several ‘bunny hills’ and turns, curved drops, insane accelerations, barrel rolls and an under-flip inverted roll.

The Smiler has the world record for having the most inversions. Once you go over the hill the cart goes into six inversions with upside down loops. Then, climbs up again, goes for another drop and then 7 more inversions. Jesus! In November 2015, The Smiler had a crash that seriously injured 5 people, leaving passengers trapped nearly 30ft off the ground for hours. The reason for the crash was the fact that the attraction’s safety control system had been manually overridden without the proper checks being followed. It reopened again on March 2016.

X2 is the world’s first 4th dimension roller coaster. The seats are positioned on either side of the track, each one with their own separate ability to rotate around 360 degrees. Once you go down the first drop, it’s hard to tell which way you are going to be facing for the rest of the trip. It has a sound system and pyrotechnic displays!

Opened in May 2016, Valravn is world’s tallest and longest dive coaster. The train starts by reaching the top of its 68m climb hill, it pauses for four seconds and then drops you for 214 feet (65 m) at a 90-degree angle where it reaches 75 miles per hour (121 km/h). It then enters loops before rising again for a second drop this time at 131 feet (40 m).

Sky scream offers an unnervingly strange launch as riders are sent straight out from the loading bay into a vertical track. But they then reach a quarter of the way up and they fly backwards to the loading bay and then they continue with loop, twists and rolls and again into the loading bay… yeah, you got it, it’s a mess.

Banshee is the world’s longest inverted roller coaster with speeds reaching 69 miles (109 km) per hour. It has a total of 7 inversions including twists, rolls and loops. Performing these loops at such high speeds gives riders a zero gravity experience.

A 1 minute, 25 second ride that, when opened in 2008, set the record for the steepest roller coaster in the world. The ride starts off calmly with a 37-meter climb straight up to the top and then a 97 degree drop facedown. Once the steep drop is complete, the car races into loops and corkscrews.
