Why should I die for the United States when they don’t give a flying f*ck about me? That is the question many of us are asking ourselves as we confront the harsh realities of systemic racism and inequality in our country. For too long, the United States has failed to live up to its promises of liberty and justice for all, and the military is no exception to this.
Let’s talk about the military. Many of us have grown up with stories of heroism and bravery, with images of soldiers fighting for our freedom and protecting our way of life. But as we have seen time and time again, the military does not always treat its citizens with the respect and dignity they deserve. From the appalling treatment of veterans to the rampant discrimination within the ranks, it is clear that the military is not the shining example of American values that it claims to be.
So why would anyone want to join a military that treats its citizens like shit? It’s a question that I have asked myself, and one that I now urge the people I love not to ignore. Why would we want our loved ones to risk life and limb in support of a government that treats them like garbage? It’s a question that deserves serious consideration, and one that should be at the forefront of the minds of anyone considering enlisting.
But it goes even deeper than that. Imagine being called an extremist simply for holding beliefs that differ from the status quo. Imagine being labeled as dangerous or unpatriotic for daring to speak out against injustice. And then imagine being questioned why those same people don’t want to enlist in the military. It’s a cruel irony that highlights the hypocrisy of those in power, and it is a slap in the face to anyone who dares to challenge the status quo.
And let’s not even get started on the issue of race. As a white American male, I have been bombarded with messages about how I am part of the problem, how I am an oppressor, and how I have been stealing opportunities from the less fortunate. I have been told to step aside and let others take my place, even if they don’t deserve it. I have seen other races promoted in universities, businesses, and social settings based solely on the color of their skin, while my own race has been consistently vilified and mocked in movies, television, and general conversation. So forgive me for not jumping at the opportunity to serve a nation which has treated me and people like me with such disdain.
It’s just us white folk stepping aside and letting all those brave non-whites excel and prosper, right? It’s a joke, and a cruel one at that. The fact is that the United States has a long history of discrimination and inequality, and the military is no exception. Until we as a nation confront these systemic issues head-on, we cannot in good conscience ask anyone to risk their lives in service to a government that does not value them as human beings.
In conclusion, why should I die for the United States when they don’t give a flying f*ck about me? The answer is simple: I shouldn’t, and neither should anyone else. It’s time for us to demand better from our government and our military, and to hold them accountable for their actions. Until they show us that they truly care about all of their citizens, regardless of race, gender, or belief, we have no obligation to serve them. It’s time for a change, and it starts with us.
So forgive me for not jumping at the opportunity to serve a nation which has treated me and people like me with such disdain.
Yep, it’s just us White folk stepping aside and letting all those brave non-Whites excel and prosper.
God speed to the New United States!
