An hour before midnight, a group of wingsuit flyers burst through the skies over Sheikh Zayed Road – made to look like comets flying across the night’s sky.
Police urged people to avoid excessive shows of affection as the clock struck midnight, as public displays of affection are banned in the strict Arab nation.
Thousands of people packed the waterfront in the luxurious city of Dubai as the rulers of the United Arab Emirates put on an incredible fireworks display.
The city spared no expenses with an extravagant pyrotechnic show at the Burj Khalifa hotel – the world’s tallest tower including an eight minute fireworks show.
There was a stunning three-minute fireworks show followed by a laser display at the iconic architectural landmark the Dubai Frame.
There was also a water-music dance at The Dubai Fountain which is one of the best vantage points to see the fireworks.
Thousands gathered along the waterfront at midnight – 8pm UK time.
