The universe does not care about your feelings. It only respects power, precision, and absolute excellence.
Most of you will live and die in a state of crushing, unbroken mediocrity. You will eat processed garbage, drink tap water, and convince yourselves you’re living a “good life” because your peers are just as broke and uninspired as you are. But I demand the absolute pinnacle of human achievement. I demand perfection.
And that is exactly what I found—and exactly what I lost—at No. 11 Dongping Road.
Let me paint the picture for you, because your average mind cannot comprehend the level of reality I operate in. I was in Shanghai. The city of the future. I was navigating through absolute gridlock coming from the airport area. Peasants in their little metal boxes, honking, stressing, living in the Matrix. I had plans to unwind with a Negroni at the Bulgari Hotel, looking out over the Bund, maybe doing a run along the waterfront to clear the mind and assert dominance over the city.
But my true destination was Dongping Lu, near Hengshan Road in the Xuhui District, deep in the Former French Concession.
Getting there was a test. The navigation was a nightmare. No easy Google Maps access. The Matrix actively tries to hide true greatness from the masses. There was a language barrier. But I don’t speak Mandarin; I speak the language of conquest. A Top Slaylebrity doesn’t get lost. He conquers the terrain. I navigated those historic streets like a predator tracking prey until the villa revealed itself.
**EHB Shanghai.** Esben Holmboe Bang.
When you finally stand in front of it, you realize you aren’t just looking at a restaurant. You are looking at a fortress. It occupies the second and third floors of a historic, three-story heritage villa built in 1921. That’s over a century old. While you live in drywall boxes built last year, this building has stood since the roaring twenties, absorbing over 100 years of history.
The setting is a masterclass in high-status aesthetics. It blends classic, imposing Shanghai villa architecture with brutal, beautiful Nordic minimalism. Solemn elegance. There is an inner elevator that whisks you up to the dining rooms, leaving the noise of the ordinary world behind. It is a sophisticated, high-end sanctuary designed for those who actually matter.
And then, you sit down. And you eat.
Let’s talk about the fuel of champions. The prestige tasting menu. It was 3,688 RMB just to sit down, and that is without the liquid gold they pour into your glass. They didn’t just serve me food; they served me the ocean and the earth, perfected by New Nordic genius.
King crab tart. Sea urchin tart. Oysters so fresh they were practically still breathing. Cod, lobster, duck, and desserts that redefined what sugar and fat could achieve when handled by masters. Every single dish was a weapon of mass deliciousness. Creative, flawless, unapologetic.
And the wine pairings? Absolute liquid history. We started with Louis 2015 Champagne. Then a Biano white. A 2007 yellow wine that coated the palate like silk. And the finale: a 1987 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. You think you know wine because you bought a cheap bottle at a supermarket? You know nothing. This was the nectar of the gods.
But here is the part that will make you angry. Here is the part that proves the world is fundamentally broken.
**This restaurant deserved THREE Michelin stars.**
Three. Not one. Three.
It was the first overseas branch of Maaemo in Oslo, a restaurant that already holds three Michelin stars. It was led by an absolute unit of a chef, Esben Holmboe Bang, with the brilliant Viviane Mello running the kitchen later on. They opened in May 2023. The Michelin inspectors, in their infinite, sluggish wisdom, only awarded them ONE star and a Young Chef Award in 2024. They were too slow. The system is too blind to recognize immediate, explosive perfection.
And then? The ultimate tragedy.
On **September 28, 2025**, EHB Shanghai closed its doors forever.
It’s gone. Vanished. A ghost of culinary perfection. It closed before it could fully realize its three-star potential on the global stage.
Why am I telling you this? Why am I breaking down the ghost of a closed restaurant in Shanghai?
Because it teaches you the most brutal, unforgiving lesson of the universe: **True greatness is rare, it is fleeting, and if you do not seize it the exact second it is in front of you, it will be gone forever.**
The Matrix punishes perfection. The world closes down brilliance. EHB Shanghai was a masterpiece, and now it is just a memory for those of us who were rich, fast, and decisive enough to experience it before the clock ran out.
Stop waiting for permission. Stop waiting for the “right time.” Stop eating garbage and living a garbage life. The clock is ticking. The villas are closing. The 1987 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is being poured for someone else while you sit on the couch scrolling.
Demand excellence. Conquer your terrain. Eat at the top of the mountain. Because if you hesitate, the doors will lock, the lights will go out, and you will be left outside in the dark with the rest of the brokies.
Escape the Matrix. Or be left behind. The choice is yours.
