If you’re planning a trip to France, then Mont Saint-Michel is a destination that should not be missed. Our Europe road trip led us through the whole country from the North to the South, and out of all the places we visited, Mont Saint-Michel was the most magical for me.
As we approached the island, it looked like a fairytale castle at the horizon. However, as we got closer, we realized that it was a small little village with an abbey located on an island which is connected to the mainland via a bridge. It was a truly breathtaking sight, and we couldn’t wait to explore everything that the island had to offer.

Over the centuries, it was expanded into a monastery, and eventually into the magnificent abbey that still stands today. The abbey was built on top of the rocky island, and its towering spires and grand halls were a testament to the architectural skills of the medieval builders.

The island is situated at the mouth of the Couesnon River, and it is only accessible by a narrow causeway that is covered by water during high tide.
