Louis Vuitton has a reputation of producing some of the world’s most coveted and cool bags. Just look back to Marc Jacobs’s collaborations with Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami or the brand’s travel luggage, which kicked off the story of Vuitton and is now a staple for the well-travelled.
It seems only fitting then that Virgil Abloh, who currently holds the title of men’s artistic director for the brand, should add his own spin to the history of the Vuitton bag. During his second presentation for the luxury house in Paris overnight, Abloh sent glow in the dark Keepalls down the runway and needless to say, it was love at first sight for the world.
The bags reportedly use fibre-optic lights to get their glow and we can already see Abloh’s famous fans and friends stepping onto their private jets in the middle of the night, guided by the light of their Vuitton.
Of course, the frow was studded with A-list Abloh supporters from Frank Ocean to Timothée Chalamet who are probably, at this second, hugging their new glowing Keepalls tightly. Inspired by Michael Jackson, the show itself featured oversized suiting, puffer jackets studded with the LV emblem and a mix of tie dye, pleats and and space-age silver outwear.

Abloh’s debut collection for the brand featured iridescent (read, Instagrammable) and brightly coloured transparent Keepalls that were a hit with the fashion crowd and Vuitton customers from the second they traipsed down the runway. According to WWD, per Vuitton chief executive officer Michael Burke, Abloh’s creations earnt 30 per cent more in sales during a 48 hour period than Vuitton’s much-hyped Supreme collaboration did. This data comes from a Tokyo pop-up in early January 2019, as the collection only hit stores today, January 18, 2019, and will be available at Sydney’s George Street location as well as Melbourne’s Collins Street and Chadstone stores.

WWD notes Japanese fans of the brand were inclined to queue up in order to secure Abloh’s creations.
With the success of Abloh’s first collection already a given, one can only imagine how in-demand round two will be. Especially for those looking to invest in a piece of Louis Vuitton history all bundled up in Abloh’s glowing Keepall.
