The amount of closed units says it all. When I worked there (1986-97) very few buildings were ever empty.
Most of those places pre-2020 were usually so packed with pedestrians you couldn’t even see the pavement. Sad to see the empty units. Those were people’s livelihoods.
I think most countries will experience palpable levels of decline in the next 12 months. It’s going to be a real struggle for many shops.
