At the beginning of the year all countries come out in full force to show off, So far Dubai has spared no expense in this pageantry and this year was no exception.
Dubai once again rang in the New Year with one of its most expensive firework displays yet.
Thousands of people, including an estimated 200,000 tourists, rung in 2021 in the luxurious city in the United Arab Emirates.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic grounding some people it didn’t deter others from flying to Dubai – one of the world’s top destinations for New Year’s Eve.
Unlike previous years where spectators stood shoulder to shoulder the pandemic saw the strict enforcement social distancing.
Everyone had to stand at marked areas while wearing face mask at all times.
The celebratory fireworks at Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest tower – lasted just under seven minutes and displayed the Pakistani flag.
Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, said he hoped 2021 would be better in his New Year message.
He tweeted to his 42.million followers: “We end this year with optimism that 2021 and beyond will be better, brighter and happier for us all.
“With faith, determination and confidence, we are prepared to overcome any challenges and stick to our goals. Happy New Year to you all, from the UAE to the world.”
A recent survey carried out among 50 cities ranked Dubai as one of the top three most expensive destinations to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
Christian Fairway, who flew in from South Africa on Sunday said: “It’s great to see a city celebrating NYE, especially during times like these.
“It’s become my favourite place to celebrate the New Year.”
Visitors pay on average £220 a night.
Haytham Omar, General Manager at Al Jaddaf Rotana Suite Hotel, said: “There is clearly an appetite in Dubai for extravagant experiences. Dubai residents and tourists have high expectations of the city.
So, the industry should always be looking for ways to meet these expectations and go above and beyond.”
But for those with a fatter budget (a whopping $2.4 Million at least) they could enjoy a three-night stay in a suite at the recently opened Me by Melia Hotel in Business Bay with full-board dining and a new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Roadster to get around the city in.
Plus you’ll also get a a watch from Jacob & Co.’s Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Collection thrown into the package costing an eye-watering £1.75million.
You do get to keep the car and watch in which the hotel claims is the most expensive package in the world.
VERDICT
After Singapore took the crown from Duba last year, this year Dubai dont play! There was no competition, Dubai definitely took its crown back. Sorry Singapore better effort next year.
