Without further ado, it is with great pleasure, honour and a significant sense of disbelief that we introduce the Ianos Mihanikos edition, a watch that is both Greek in design and inspiration but very Parisian in looks, to be sold exclusively.
For this edition, we wanted to present a more modern look for the Mihanikos inspired by Parisian colours and atmosphere while retaining all those elements that have made it so loved amongst our clients and collectors.
Keeping the original design elements and changing the dial to a cool, contemporary grey and the hands to a classic black, the Mihanikos is modernized while keeping its distinct appearance and character steeped in Greek diving history, presenting a rugged, uniquely designed diver for people who are looking for something different.
Each component of the Mihanikos has been designed with a specific inspiration in mind and the attention to detail is unparalleled.
The case is designed to signify, in combination with the bezel, the image of the scaphandre and its front window. From the side, the curved design simulates a soft round sponge which is what the divers endangered their lives for.
The midsection have been designed as a band around the watch, simulating a three piece construction of the watch, signifying the pieced construction of the original diving suits.
The strap channel incorporates the strap into the watch design affording unmatched comfort and security.
The wide minimal bezel further simulates the porthole effect of the scaphandre, bringing the gaze into the dial and is made from a single piece of steel to simulate the ruggedness of old diving uniforms.
The dial, simple in design offers a plethora of diving inspired elements from the diving stone indexes to the date window at 12, while the small seconds is designed after the air pumps used by the first divers.
Finally, the Mihanikos traditional song is inscribed in the flange of the watch encapsulating what the diver life was about – stoic contemplation of a hard life and bravery in the face of death.
Only 30 are being made for now, and all watches will be numbered. Only 12 will be available for purchase upon the launch with the rest shall be delivered in September, so if you’re interested in getting one, you will have to be fast!
