We recently stumbled upon Grub Shack.
This place was recommended on Dubai Eye (local talk radio) so we decided to give it a go. It is tricky to fine being round the back of the building. The menu is a mix of Goan food, traditional Indian and Chinese…
A famed Goan eatery from Sharjah that recently located to Dubai, we were amazed to see how packed the place was.
The décor is rustic and the vibe is relaxed-there is a cute rickshaw stand serving kulfi and a small stage for live performances. The menu offers a variety of dishes including street snacks, seafood and much more.
We began with the very indulgent cheese chutney bomb (18 AED)-a soft delicate potato patty that was oozing with cheese and a hint of green chutney. The banglore chicken (25 AED) was deep-fried chicken with a lot of kick to it-definitely one to try if you like your food spicy.
The crab roast masala (65 AED) was the dish we were most excited to try. A delicacy in most Goan homes, the fresh crab was cooked in a thick roasted coconut gravy that we thoroughly enjoyed with some steamed white rice.
We ended the night with freshly churned mango kulfi served on a stick-it was the perfect way to wrap up a spicy and flavourful meal.
However in the middle of service about 6:30, the music went off and the staff appeared to have a team meeting and ignore the customers….Bizarre….
Overall, Grub Shack is an affordable, casual eatery serving delicious homemade Goan-style food.
Total bill for 4? 450AED
Definitely recommended if you like spicy food.
