If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, this is exactly where you should be. With an inclination of up to 106%, this funicular is the steepest of its kind in Europe. Originally built to transport the heavy construction materials for the Gelmer dam, it is nowadays open for adventure-seeking hikers. In a blink, the funicular makes its way to the Gelmer valley 1860 meter above sea level. Once at the top, a walk around the turquoise coloured lake is a must, or a hike up to the Gelmer hut for some more spectacular lookouts.
The tickets can be purchased online, at the Grimseltor Tourist Centre in Innertkirchen or at the bottom station of the Gelmer funicular. The tickets are only valid for the ride on the date and time specified on the ticket. Modification, exchanges or refund of the purchased tickets is not possible Important note – The purchased ticket-vouchers have to be exchanged at the ticket office of the funicular not later than 15 minutes prior to departure. In exchange for your voucher, you will be given a time card for the ride (ticket with specified time of departure). If you do not show up in time, your tickets will be made available for sale. .
