CARL SUCHY & SÖHNE PRESENTS BELVEDERE CASUAL ELEGANCE WITH AN IMPERIAL TWIST
Carl Suchy & Söhne releases a brand-new collection named Belvedere. As with the earlier Waltz N°1 wristwatch and the Table Waltz clock, this timepiece is in the brand’s hallmark Viennese design language mixing sportiness and charm. The Belvedere is revealed to the public on March 28, 2023, at the TimeToWatches trade fair in Geneva, Switzerland. This latest model from Carl Suchy & Söhne was inspired by the world-famous Belvedere Palace, which stands in the heart of Vienna and was once the residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy. The name of this early eighteenth-century architectural gem means “beautiful view” and refers to a building that was designed to provide a unique, tranquil, and expansive view of its surroundings.
The name was carefully chosen. “As an intellectual and famous field marshal of the Holy Roman Empire, Prince Eugene was a man of his time,” says Robert Punkenhofer, creative director and CEO of Carl Suchy & Söhne. “When not on the battlefield, he sought a serene life in a harmoniously built residence set in the midst of orderly yet playful Baroque gardens.” It was the ideal place for a creative mind to dream of new perspectives, and it also reflects the aesthetic trajectory of Carl Suchy & Söhne’s latest model. “We have introduced two dialoguing aspects into our own Belvedere, the functional and the playful,” Punkenhofer adds. “And there’s more: This watch draws on the past, but also looks towards the future of our brand.”The Belvedere is developed by designer Milos Ristin and master watchmaker Marc Jenni, who were both involved in the now classic Waltz N°1. The look is informed by two contrasting aspects of Viennese aesthetics, rationalism, and emotion. A first glance reveals a timepiece that is sleek and logical on the outside.
FROM THE ROTATING SECOND TO THE JUMPING DATE
The stringency, however, is tempered by amusing little touches, including the familiar “Suchy twist,” a unique date display window that changes position each day. Then, there is the asymmetrical guilloché dial that transforms the look of the watch every twenty-four hours. The skeletonized hands and indexes light up brightly on the dial thanks to a generous application of SuperLumiNova, ensuring high legibility even in difficult lighting conditions. The stainless-steel case of the Belvedere is also subtly animated by the interplay of polished and satin-finished surfaces. The exhibition case back of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal reveals a decorated automatic movement with a rotor featuring the micro-engraved facade of Belvedere Palace. The watch runs on the CSS201 caliber, which is built upon a Dubois Dépraz and delivers 42 hours of power reserve.
MAXIMUM
RELIABILITY AND ROBUSTNESS
The integrated high-quality rubber strap has an elegantly textured inner surface for maximum wearing comfort even while the wearer is engaged in sports. Even swimmers can keep the watch on while in the water since the screw-down crown allows water resistance up to one-hundred meters. The Belvedere was indeed designed as the perfect companion for a plunge into the Danube or an elegant gala at the Viennese Hofburg, the former imperial palace. The Belvedere communicates Vienna’s relaxed attitude towards life, the ability to rise above the little cares and worries of daily existence. Because in this city with its long and diverse history, not every second counts, really. This is as true today as it was two centuries ago, when Carl Suchy created his very first watch. The new model is delivered in a limited production number of one-hundred watches in 2023. It is available in white, blue, and black color variants.
