Partners For 3 Years, Bell & Ross Celebrate The 70th Anniversary Of The Patrouille De France With A Limited Edition
An elite unit of the French Air Force, the Patrouille de France has established itself over the past 70 years as one of the world’s leading aerobatic formations. Founded in 1953, the group has built its reputation on the excellence of its pilots, chosen from among the best fighter pilots, and the panache of its performances, appreciated at all latitudes. A symbol of the performance of our armed forces, the Patrouille de France is also an ambassador of French style the world over. Every flight is a feat, both in purely technical and artistic terms. A success that has been constantly renewed for 70 years, thanks to rigorous preparation and precise execution. Founded on a precious heritage, these notions are particularly inspiring for today’s times. They are, of course, also inspiring for Bell & Ross, which is dedicating a limited series of its BR 03 instrument watch to this exceptional anniversary. “By becoming a partner of the Patrouille de France, Bell & Ross is associating itself with the values espoused by this prestigious Air Force and Space Force unit, and is itself becoming an ambassador of French military aeronautical excellence.
The BR 03-92 PATROUILLE DE FRANCE 70TH ANNIVERSARY seals this date with a unique timepiece, the fruit of a rich and prestigious history between the House of Bell & Ross and military aviation,” emphasizes Carlos Rosillo, President and co-founder of Bell & Ross.
Shared values The Patrouille de France and Bell & Ross are two institutions with a shared history. The link is much stronger than a simple association of two names. Just as aerobatics requires a perfect symbiosis between team members, the two paths have crossed, and sometimes even merged, since 2021. Over time, a genuine partnership has been forged between these two entities, each of which is a benchmark in its own field of expertise, thanks to shared values. “Since 2020, the French Air Force and Bell & Ross have forged a partnership of trust around the Patrouille de France brand and strong shared values. Surpassing oneself, constant innovation, rigor, precision and a spirit of cohesion are what the teams of the Grande Dame and those of Bell & Ross live for every day. What’s more, it’s the demand for excellence and the desire to raise the prestige of French wings to the highest level that unites us and gives meaning to our association. The French Air Force is proud to be celebrating, alongside Bell & Ross, the 70th anniversary of the Patrouille de France with this latest timepiece, the fruit of our shared passion,” says Colonel Malard, Director of SIRPA Air et Espace.
Mythical aircraft
For seven decades, the Patrouille de France has left its mark on people’s minds and hearts, thanks not only to its exceptional pilots, but also to its aircraft. In the sky, their sleek lines and agility are also part of the beauty of the show. From the Thunderjet, which entered service in 1953, to the Alphajet, in service since 1981, via the Ouragan, Mystère IV and the legendary Fouga Magister, these aircraft are part of the legend. How could we fail to pay tribute to them? To celebrate them, they are represented on the back of the ceramic case of the BR 03-92 PATROUILLE DE FRANCE 70TH ANNIVERSARY. For the tribute to be up to scratch, a few challenges had to be met. “The silhouettes of the 5 aircraft that have flown since the Patrouille de France was created in 1953 are engraved on the back of the watch. It was quite tricky for the art department to make the 5 planes ‘fit’ on this back,” explains Bruno Belamich, Creative Director and co-founder of Bell & Ross. Mission accomplished.
An instrument designed with pilots in mind The human dimension is paramount in any aerial performance. In an aircraft, flight instruments are designed to be at the pilot’s service. Guided by this philosophy, Bell & Ross has always been committed to developing its professional timepieces in direct liaison with their users. It’s a guiding principle that influences the technical features and adds a real soul to the watches. “Pilots are always consulted in the creation of watches: the Maison’s primary aim is to meet the needs of these men and provide them with a tool at the service of their mission. For example, the BR 03 TYPE A Patrouille de France was created at the request of the pilots, and is equipped with a quartz movement providing a dual analog and digital display,” recalls Bruno Belamich. The BR 03-92 PATROUILLE DE FRANCE 70TH ANNIVERSARY is no exception: designed for pilots, it was designed with pilots in mind.
A high-flying watch While the BR 03-92 PATROUILLE DE FRANCE 70TH ANNIVERSARY is designed to celebrate the anniversary of the Patrouille de France, it is nonetheless a professional instrument. As proof, it adopts the fuselage of the BR 03, i.e. an ultra-light square case (42 x 42 mm) in high-tech ceramic, treated here with a black coating to accentuate the contrasts. Technical and contemporary, water-resistant to 100 meters, it protects the BR-CAL 302 caliber self-winding mechanical movement, which displays the hours, minutes, seconds and date. For the dial of this exclusive anniversary edition, limited to 999 pieces, Bell & Ross has chosen a particularly luminous shade of blue, evoking the color of the Patrouille de France’s Alpha Jets. The insignia of this elite formation and the specific logo of its 70th anniversary appear at the heart of this dial, subtly encircled by the colors of the French flag.
