If you’re active on social media, you might have seen photos of AZULIK before. This picture-perfect eco-retreat in Tulum has become Instagram famous thanks to its surreal architecture and jaw-dropping landscape. Hanging over the cliffs right on the Caribbean Sea coast, the retreat combines luxury with total immersion in nature.
The AZULIK complex consists of 48 villas inspired by the elements and indigenous South American heritage. Even though the amenities and décor differ, all villas are promoting harmony with nature. Expect decks hanging over the beach in a gravity-defying manner, bathtubs carved out of a log, and whimsical wicker furniture. There is no electricity in the villas, so you can truly disconnect (note that this also includes no air conditioning).

But it’s not the villas – gorgeous as they are – that won AZULIK its internet fame. The hallmarks of the retreat are the outlandish restaurants that look like giant bird’s nests perched over the treetops. Kin Toh serves Mayan-Mexican avant-garde cuisine, and Tseen-Ja is mixing things up with Japanese and Mexican fusion. Make sure to schedule your dinner for the sunset, so you get the full experience.
AZULIK is offering daily yoga classes, meditation, and private energy coaching to complete your rejuvenation journey. You can fully unwind at the Maya Spa with treatments ranging from facials to a moonlight couples massage. And if all this doesn’t heal your aching soul, there is always retail therapy: you’ll find three designer fashion stores here.
