Zlatan Ibrahimovic is headed to Wembley to watch England play in the near future and will be sporting a Three Lions shirt while downing fish and chips after losing a bet to former teammate David Beckham.
Ibrahimovic and Beckham — teammates at four clubs during their playing days — made a wager on the World Cup quarterfinal between England and Sweden on Saturday. England won 2-0, and now Ibrahimovic will have to live up to his end of the bargain.
Ibrahimovic’s side of the bet would have had Beckham taking the LA Galaxy striker on a shopping spree at IKEA, and as the match played out, the England legend begged his national team on Instagram to “Please win, I do not want to take this man to @ikeasverige and buy him whatever he wants” — tagging Ibra in the photo and including a picture of the two during their playing days at Paris Saint-Germain.
But as England wrapped up the victory and booked a first World Cup semifinal spot for the birthplace of football since 1990, Beckham posted a shot of Ibrahimovic in a vintage England kit and wrote: “Looks like someone’s coming to Wembley again.”
Ibrahimovic — using an uncharacteristic economy of words — wrote back: “I’m coming. Congrats.”
It will be worth keeping a lookout for the next England fixture at Wembley Stadium because there may well be two very high-profile footballers on hand with sleeves on their England jerseys rolled up as they power down one of the country’s finest delicacies.
