This Friday, also known as inauguration day, Melania Trump will need two key outfits – one for day when her husband, Donald, will take the Oath of Office on live television, and then one for the evening when there will be a grand inauguration ball.
So far, Ralph Lauren has been named as the soon-to-be First Lady’s top choice, but WWD has thrown another name in the ring this morning – Karl Lagerfeld. She could, hypothetically, be wearing both – relaxed, all-American Lauren by day and a couture gown by Lagerfeld by night.
Although it’s unknown what brand Lagerfeld is apparently designing under (is it Chanel, Fendi or his own label?), the legendary designer has reportedly been enlisted by the soon-to-be First Lady, who is “likely” to wear a creation by the designer on Friday.
It wouldn’t be entirely a surprise for Lagerfeld to take the controversial job of dressing Trump. While other designers have refused to dress the future First Lady on moral grounds, Lagerfeld is famously a provocateur who doesn’t mind taking the divisive route.
We’ll have to wait and see.
