Earlier this year, The Botanist in Leopold Square launched a new cocktail and dessert to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

The bar’s parent organisation New World Trading Company partnered with the charity, and £1 from each sale of a new cocktail and dessert went to the charity.

The Plant Pot Sharer dessert (£9.50) was created in memory of a young boy called John Somers, who was turned away from Barnardo’s in 1873 and died a few days later, inspiring Dr Barnardo’s motto -No Destitute Child Ever Refused Admission. The child’s nickname was carrots – in homage, the plant pot is filled with carrot cake layered with rich cream cheese frosting and topped with chocolate soil.

The Botanist also served The Believer Cocktail (£7.50), a beautifully crafted gin punch which marries peach liquor with ginger, jasmine, lemon and pineapple. The finishing touches come courtesy of a kiwi fan, mint sprig and signature Botanist liquid pipette.

Jodie Osakwe, general manager at The Botanist, Sheffield said: “We’re very proud to partner with Barnardo’s to create a limited edition dessert and cocktail.

“Drinkers and diners enjoying the new menu additions will be helping to support disadvantaged young people throughout the UK.”

Barnardo’s support bright futures for young people around the UK, no matter what the background. Their purpose is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children. Whether this is supporting children on the streets, living in impoverished areas, with unwell parents, with disabilities, learning difficulties or mental health problems.

The Slay team had the pleasure of enjoying this special illusion cake at the botanist yesterday. We were completely blown away.

About the Botanist

It started with a seed, an idea to create a secret garden of food and drink. A place where antiquities and trinkets hang from the walls, and resident botanists craft unusual concoctions. Some arrive for the live music, some for the conversation; but here at The Botanist, all can enjoy a wondrous occasion…

A concept like no other, offering a soon to be world-famous selection of botanical cocktails, craft beers and ales, Champagne and wine. Food inspired by the deli, rotisserie and BBQ. With live music every night, sublime social times are guaranteed!
