Just a week after Donald Trump posted a meme of him ‘beating up’ the TV news network, his son Donald Trump Jr has taken the feud to another level.

Continuing the meme war the presidents son posted a video of a scene from Top Gun – but with a very important twist

The clip is edited so that Trump plays the role of fighter pilot Maverick, who shoots down another plane, marked CNN, with a well-aimed missile.

Trump Jr said it was ‘one of the best’ CNN memes he had seen, and added crying with laughter and American flag emojis.

Aside from being slightly sadistic, very bizarre and completely unpresidential, the post again raises the issue of what the Trumps are trying to achieve by sharing aggressive memes.

The president was accused of bullying and threatening the network last week after posting the altered version of his WWE appearance in 2007.

By rather than assaulting the press as the President appeared to in last weeks video, his son appears to suggest that blowing them up would be even better.

Trump’s vendetta against news organisations that have criticised him has also led to a direct backlash against certain reporters.

After Trump posted the meme, which is now his most shared tweet ever, many American journalists explained they have received violent threats as a result of their coverage of him.

In a statement released last week, CNN said: ‘It is a sad day when the president of the United States encourages violence against reporters.’

They added that Trump ‘is involved in juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office. We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his’.
