If there’s anything that can get me to fork out hundreds of pounds on a one-night stay in a luxury hotel, it’s a bath. Fluffy robes, luxury amenities, champagne while I soak… Just leave me here to shrivel up like an expensive prune and I will be totally and entirely happy with my life.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of soaking in one of London’s top tubs, then you’re in for a treat, as these luxury stays offer a restful escape without ever having to leave the city. From bathrooms steeped in history and glamour to outdoor tubs, sweeping views of the city, and retractable roofs for bath time stargazing – these are London’s most luxurious hotel bathrooms to soak your stress away.

The Mandrake
Could any hotel ever compete with The Mandrake’s Penthouse? Actors, musicians and directors have all called this Penthouse room home whilst staying in London, and it’s not hard to see why. The room itself is one-of-a-kind, drenched in white marble, with a bed so wide it has its own custom-made mattress.
But the bathroom is hands down one of the most luxurious hotel bathrooms in the world, featuring a huge six-person jacuzzi bath, a retractable roof opening up to the London sky (late night star gazing anyone?), disco lights, a soft pink chaise longue, a gold-trunked tree for that tropical island vibe, a dual shower and steam room. Wow.

The Standard 
An outdoor tub in King’s Cross that has privacy, you say? Oh, yes. After a Mexican-meets-Spanish dinner at Decimo, followed by classic cocktails at Double Standard, check into The Standard’s Junior Suite which is nicely understated rather than flashy (think woody, California-modern interiors) and is most definitely the best room in the house. 
From a Peloton bike delivered directly to your room on request, and a Stutterheim raincoat for use across your stay, to complimentary sneaker cleaning and tasty minibar additions, the attention to detail is second to none. And this extends to whoever it was that decided to put the bathtub on the terrace. For that indoor-outdoor feel, bathe outdoors amidst sweeping city views from the 8th floor (and take pity on the peasants commuting below, of course). Inside, there’s a bathroom with a walk-in shower and chic, custom Craig Green bathrobes.

Home House
Every home has a story – and if the walls of Home House’s Lady Islington Suite could talk, we bet they’d have an awful lot to say.
Lady Islington lived in Home House between 1919 and 1926, and  was one of a handful of pioneering female interior decorators in the inter-war years. She redecorated much of Home House, removing the heavy accretions of the 19th Century and adding flair, but it’s this beautiful bathroom that’s her pièce de résistance. Fitted in 1922, its floor-to-ceiling red marble is something special, cut from the very same source as St. Paul’s Cathedral. 
Over the next 70 years, the suite was inhabited by various other residents. But in World War II, there was one particularly unwelcome guest: a bomb which fell through the ceiling of this bathroom (but, thankfully, didn’t explode). There’s still a large crack in the marble floor of Lady Islington’s bathroom, as one of the few buildings on Portman Square which survived the Blitz.
So run the bath, let the light flood in through the canopy above, and pretend you’re Lady Islington draped in a delicate gown, dripping with diamonds.

Shangri-La The Shard, London

Set in their largest rooftop suite, this is a stay that promises bespoke luxury and unparalleled service. And while the suite may have a couple of bathrooms, it’s the one in the second bedroom you’ll want to make a beeline for. Here, an iconic pink bathroom, gleaming with old-school Hollywood glamour awaits you.
And when we say Hollywood glamour, we really mean it, because the iconic pink decor was personally requested by Elizabeth Taylor herself. It was in this suite that she celebrated many special moments in her career – including the moment she was offered the role of Cleopatra in 1959. If those pink walls could talk, huh?

Great Fosters
The chocolate-box selection of rooms at Great Fosters boast  some seriously indulgent bathrooms. Take their historic ‘Panel 1’ suite, where the bathroom is reached through – you guessed it – panelling. Enter through one of the many hidden doorways in the room, and cocoon yourself in luxury in this wood-panelled masterpiece. 
Or book yourself into the two-room Queen Anne Suite, which aside from having space in abundance and gorgeous original details and furnishings, also has a stunning bathroom with pretty tiles and a sublime bathtub big enough for two. Not forgetting of course the impressive drench shower (also big enough for two) and who doesn’t love a throne-style loo?

The Ned
