This pitcher plant hat is part of the Carnivorous Plants collection hats inspired by the hungry plants found all over the world who are nourished by insects and small animals. This hat is inspired by the deadly Sarracenia pitcher plant, found primarily in North and South America.This sneaky plant attracts insects with a pool of sweet nectar that ensnares them and makes their wings useless, the ribbed edge of their pitcher also makes it impossible for them to climb out. This statuesque hat is tall and graceful, like the plants themselves.

The base of the hat is made of buckram with many layers of green stiffened silk on top of it to create a large, sweeping and perfectly fit onto the head shape, made more comfortable by a wool lining in the base.. The pitchers themselves are made of stiffened silk that has been shaped and stitched to create lifelike plants. Both the base and the pitchers are meticulously hand painted to create a beautiful green to red ombre, complete with the visible veins famously found on pitcher plants. Perched on the top of one of the pitchers is a handmade fly who is about to meet his doom. At the base of the pitchers there are hand sewn beads of glass and stone.
