WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Suits season 9, episode 10.

SUITS season 9, episode 10 brought 9 years of the legal drama to an end this week. But while many were pleased with the send-off to the classic show, there was 1 major character missing during the goodbyes. So why did Jessica Pearson not return?

Jessica Pearson (played by Gina Torres) was a major part of Suits, starring on the show from season one up until she left in season six. The character was then given her own spin-off series called Pearson, which began airing in July. However, many fans thought that she might return for the finale episode.

The final episode of Suits season nine tied up a number of loose ends hanging over from the long-running show.

In the episode, the team all reunited to send Faye (Denise Crosby) away from the firm as well as Katrina (Amanda Schull) getting promoted to partner.
The show also took a romantic turn as both Louis (Rick Hoffman) and Sheila (Rachael Harris) got married as well as Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Donna (Sarah Rafferty).
The episode also had a touching goodbye to Mike (Patrick J Adams) who came back to the show for the final series and he and Harvey relived their meeting from the pilot.

However, one character who did not make a return to the show was Jessica who fans will remember left back in season six.
Showrunner Aaron Korsh revealed the reason she didn’t return to Deadline in a new interview.
He said: “Gina Torres, Jessica, she was worn out from the shooting of Pearson. We did have a scene for her.
“With her schedule, we couldn’t make it work. That’s really probably the one I would have liked to have had.”

As a result, fans will just have to make do with watching her spin-off show, which will hopefully return for a second season next year.
In his interview with Deadline, Korsh also revealed that he had hoped to get Abigail Spencer back for the finale as well, but ultimately it was too hard to fit her in.
Fans will remember that she played Scottie on and off throughout the series, who was Harvey’s ex-girlfriend.
He said: “Abigail Spencer and I are always in contact every year. She had a tough scheduling road to hoe but in the end, it wasn’t really her scheduling.
“It was hard to figure out a way to fit Scottie in seamlessly. So that was more from a storytelling standpoint. I would have liked to have gotten her in but I couldn’t figure out a way to do it.”

Korsh also revealed that he did not end up asking Meghan Markle if she could come back after she made her transition to royal life.
He added: “I thought about asking, and I thought about even using audio footage that we have to come up with something, and in the end, I didn’t ask.
“And I just thought, I’m going to respect her new life and not put her in the position of having to ask.”
There is something of a silver lining for fans of Suits as Korsh also spoke to TV Guide Magazine about the possibility of characters making another appearance in the Pearson spin-off.
