Brace yourselves, because 2025 is the year that will forever redefine cancer care in Nigeria. Rejoice as we bear witness to the birth of the African Medical Centre of Excellence, a beacon of hope and healing, powered by AFREXIM, right in the heart of the rapidly developing Apo-Kabusa area of the FCT.

Let’s dive straight into the epicenter of this revolution: a 500-bed titan, standing tall and mighty on vast lands, ready to battle non-communicable diseases that have plagued Africa for far too long. With an astounding construction cost of $300 million, this Centre of Excellence is set to be the juggernaut of healthcare solutions for millions.

Now, here’s where it gets even more electrifying. During my journey to Manchester, while I was lighting up the room as a guest lecturer at the MANSAG AGM, I met with the brilliant minds steering this colossal project, including the esteemed Dr. Umar. As we mapped out the future of healthcare, it became crystal clear: the African Medical Centre of Excellence is not just a vision; it’s a reality in motion.

Imagine a place where the crème de la crème of technological advancement and global medical talent converges. This institution isn’t just about treating diseases; it’s an epicenter for research, development, and innovation. With state-of-the-art technology, including a cyclotron, and a rich biobank set to be the largest and most diverse in West Africa, this center is a powerhouse for the healthcare industry.

The WHO statistics paint a grim picture: non-communicable diseases account for a staggering 29% of deaths in Nigeria, with higher figures in regions like Ghana and South Africa. This new center stands as a fortress against these statistics, aiming to turn the tide by providing unparalleled services in Oncology, Cardiology, Haematology, among others.

But that’s not all. This incredible establishment is more than just a healthcare provider; it’s a supreme educational institution.
