When Pippa Middleton married James Matthews, not only did she throw the wedding of the year, but she also inherited a future title. Matthews’ parents are currently the Laird and Lady of Glen Affric, a Scottish estate in the Highlands. Someday, it’s reported that the titles his father and mother currently hold will be passed down to him and his wife. This means, Pippa and James will one day inherit the spectacular property.
That’s part of the reason people suspect the pair will head to the Victorian mansion, Affric Lodge, which sits on their 10,000 acre property, for the second half of their honeymoon.
When the home isn’t being rented to the public, Matthews and his family use it as their private retreat from bustling London. Over the course of the past five years, the family renovated the eight-room mansion to include all the usual modern facilities, while still keeping the history intact. But even though the interior is covered in rich wood paneling and traditional decor, it’s the exterior that really steals the show.
The Highlands estate, located in one of the most spectacular parks in the country, is known for its accessibility to hunting, sailing, canoeing and fishing. It’s also located about 15 miles from Loch Ness.
After a day exploring nature, guests at the lodge dine like royalty. In fact, the lodge says it prefers for guests to think about what they’re craving and then discuss with the staff. Perhaps that’s why notable guests, including David Beckham, have stayed here.
If you want to holiday like Pippa, you too can stay at the lodge for a relaxing getaway— for a cool $13,300 (about £10,000) for a three-night stay for eight people or $20,000 (about £15,500) for a party of 16.
