**Let the United States Keep Its USAID Funding – Nigeria Is Better Off Without It**

You ever notice how people love to talk about “helping” Africa, but rarely do they ask Africans what we actually need? You know why? Because their so-called “help” isn’t for us—it’s for them. And if you think I’m exaggerating, let me break it down for you in a way even your grandma would understand.

The United States has been shoving its USAID funding down our throats for decades, patting itself on the back like some kind of global savior while millions of Nigerians starve and struggle under artificially inflated food prices. But guess what? Something incredible happened when President Donald Trump pulled the plug on that circus act: **food prices dropped.** Not just a little—*dramatically.*

And here’s the kicker: no one saw it coming because everyone was too busy singing praises to Uncle Sam instead of asking the hard questions. Like, why were food prices so high in the first place? Why did farmers have bumper harvests year after year, yet ordinary Nigerians couldn’t afford to eat? The answer is simple: **USAID wasn’t helping—they were hoarding.**

### How USAID Played Us All

Let’s get one thing straight: foreign aid isn’t charity; it’s business. A dirty, manipulative business designed to keep countries like Nigeria dependent on the West. Don’t believe me? Look at the facts. For years, USAID claimed to be buying food from local farmers to distribute to hungry Nigerians. Sounds noble, right? Wrong. What they were really doing was *hoarding massive amounts of produce,* letting it rot in warehouses, and creating artificial scarcity to drive up prices.

Think about it. If you control supply, you control demand. And if you control demand, you control the market. That’s Economics 101. Except in this case, the “market” is the stomachs of millions of poor Nigerians who can’t afford to feed their families. Meanwhile, the same politicians, bureaucrats, and middlemen who cozy up to USAID rake in the profits. Who loses? The farmer who grows the crops. The trader who sells them. The mother trying to put dinner on the table. Everyone except the people running the show.

Now, before you start calling me a conspiracy theorist, consider this: U.S. Congressman Chris Smith accused USAID of indirectly funding terrorist groups like Boko Haram. Let that sink in. An American lawmaker accusing his own government agency of funneling money to terrorists. Does that sound like “humanitarian aid” to you? Or does it sound like another scheme cooked up by elites who don’t give a damn about anyone but themselves?

### The Numbers Don’t Lie

Here’s where things get interesting. When USAID stepped back (thanks to Trump), something miraculous happened: the market corrected itself. Traders in northern Nigeria, especially in places like Maiduguri, watched as the price of beans plummeted overnight. From ₦65,000–₦70,000 per bag, prices fell to around ₦23,000–₦27,000. Overnight! Can you imagine that? Farmers suddenly had buyers again. Families could afford to eat. All because USAID stopped playing God with our food supply.

This didn’t happen because of some magical new policy from President Tinubu or even former President Buhari. Both administrations poured billions into agriculture—grants, loans, subsidized fertilizers, machinery, everything—but none of it worked until USAID got out of the way. Why? Because all those policies were fighting against a rigged system controlled by outsiders.

### Breaking Free From Economic Slavery

Nigeria doesn’t need handouts. We never did. What we need is freedom—the freedom to grow, trade, and prosper without interference from foreign powers pretending to care. Every time someone tells you that “foreign aid” is good for Africa, remind them of this: **aid creates dependency, not development.** It keeps us begging while they profit. It keeps us weak while they stay strong.

Look, I’m not saying every single person working for USAID is evil. Some probably believe they’re making a difference. But intentions don’t matter—results do. And the result of USAID’s presence in Nigeria was higher food prices, more hunger, and greater instability. Now that they’re gone, we’re finally seeing what a free market looks like. Prices are falling. Farmers are thriving. Communities are rebuilding.

### To the Critics: Wake Up!

Of course, there will always be those defending USAID. Politicians who benefit from kickbacks. Contractors living large off inflated deals. NGOs using poverty porn to line their pockets. These people will scream bloody murder if you suggest cutting ties with USAID. But ask yourself: who are they really protecting? Nigeria—or themselves?

If you still believe USAID is some altruistic force for good, then explain this: why did food prices drop only after they left? Why didn’t all those agricultural policies work when USAID was here? Why does every country that achieves real progress eventually tell foreign aid to take a hike? China didn’t become an economic powerhouse by relying on handouts. Neither did India. Neither will Nigeria.

### Final Thoughts: Take Your Money and Go

America, listen up. We appreciate the gesture, but we don’t need your aid. In fact, we’re better off without it. Keep your dollars. Invest them in your crumbling infrastructure. Fix your failing schools. Feed your homeless veterans. Whatever you do, stop dumping your problems on us under the guise of “help.”

Nigeria is ready to stand on its own two feet. We’ve got fertile land, hardworking farmers, and resilient communities. All we needed was for the leeches to let go. Thanks to Trump—and whoever else helped pull the plug—we’re finally seeing what’s possible when outsiders stop meddling.

So here’s my message to the U.S.: **Take your USAID funding and shove it.** Nigeria is done being your pawn. We’re done being your experiment. We’re done being your excuse to meddle in our affairs. Let us handle our own destiny—for once.

And to my fellow Nigerians: wake up. Stop waiting for salvation from abroad. Start demanding accountability from within. Our future isn’t in Washington—it’s right here, in our hands. Let’s build it together.

Because at the end of the day, the only people who truly care about Nigeria… are Nigerians.

**P.S.** Share this post far and wide. Let’s make sure the world knows the truth about USAID—and how Nigeria is proving that independence beats dependency every single time.
