A spectacular wristwatch which combines the skill of the master engraver’s hand with the enchanting novelty of an unconventional time display, the Mysticum by GPHG award winning master watchmaker Stefan Kudoke is a hand crafted piece of horological art for the collector of contemporary independent watchmaking.
Specialising in two of classical watchmaking’s most traditional and expressive forms of decoration, Stefan Kudoke perpetuates the centuries old techniques of skeletonisation and engraving to create his uniquely individual timepieces for a contemporary age. Beautiful, intricate and irresistibly eye catching, each one this young German watchmaker’s pieces are distinctively original and stand out among the masses with the magnificent detailing which defines each Kudoke masterpiece.
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the bright silver colour of Mysticum’s rhodium plated dial is finished with a circular brushed grain, with twelve applied stud hour markers. The centre of the dial is dominated by a decorative plate, which is adorned with elaborate floral relief engraving around which four rounded cutaway sections reveal a revolving disc below. Here, a triangular pointer indicates the hours, while the minutes are displayed via the wavy blued steel hand above.
A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the watchmaker’s extraordinary patience and craftsmanship, as the skeletonised bottom plates and bridges are pared back to their essentials, and then finished with breathtaking hand engraving and detailing throughout. A three dimensional view of entire mechanism is accentuated with the contrast of blued barrel and ratchet wheels and screws, and the golden brass wheels of the gear train. Boasting forty six hours of power reserve, the in-house modified Unitas 6498 manual winding movement beats at a leisurely 18’000 vib/h.
Measuring 42mm across, the Mysticum is presented in a round case of stainless steel, with polished upward-facing surfaces and on its rounded stepped bezel, and a grained brush finish around its side and along the squared lugs, and features a plump push-in onion shaped crown with deep fluting.
Over the last decade Stefan Kudoke has literally been carving his reputation, and establishing himself as one of contemporary independent watchmaking’s rising talents, and this has been emphasised by an invitation to the AHCI as a candidate member. As each Mysticum is a hand crafted masterpiece, each one is individual and has its own unique personality. It is presented on a black alligator leather strap with pin buckle.
