The royal family made a stately appearance at the Royal Ascot on Tuesday, but a minor clumsy mishap occurred behind the scenes. Before arriving to the event at the Royal Enclosure, Countess Sophie of Wessex tried taking a seat in her carriage when she lost her balance—but luckily the Duchess of Cambridge caught her fall.
Both women laughed off the slip-up afterwards, but paparazzi photos captured the moment perfectly:
Kate Middleton, Prince William, Countess Sophie and her husband, the Earl of Wessex, (Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son) rode through the processional parade together on Tuesday. They joined other royal family members—like the Queen—and elite who attended the famous annual horserace. Her Majesty and other notable guests slipped ahead to the VIP parking lot, thus skipping the parade, and any potential falls that came with it.
Men came dressed in tailcoats and top hats, while women paired fascinators with colorful dresses. Kate went for a white lace Alexander McQueen look, while Sophie was stunning in a green ensemble with a wicker headpiece.
