Beyoncé is the latest celebrity to encourage fans to vote, but the superstar has upset some followers with the timing of her Election Day message.
The popular singer shared a post on Instagram endorsing Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke, who is running for Senate in her home state of Texas. On Tuesday, Beyoncé posted about how grateful she was to be politically active.

We can’t voice our frustrations and complain about what’s wrong without voting and exercising our power to make it right. We need you,” she wrote, adding, “Every vote counts.”

While plenty of people liked her message, some took issue with the fact she posted it Tuesday evening, a little after 5 p.m. local time in Texas. “R u kidding with this timing,” one person commented, while another wrote, “Really bey, you endorse him now … THREE HOURS BEFORE THE POLLS CLOSE!”
“WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?!?!” added someone else.
Some fans weren’t quite as expressive, simply voicing their disappointment. “Love love love, but why at the last minute?! Early voting in Texas started Oct. 22 — would have loved this endorsement sooner to drive more folks to the polls!” noted one Instagram user.
Another person shared, “Soooo why didn’t you post this…literally any time sooner than right before the polls close? What a wasted effort. Your voice could’ve been exponentially more impactful on this election.”
Beyoncé also had plenty of people coming to her defense, with one person explaining, “She didn’t have to post at all lol chill.” Another wrote: “Y’all are ungrateful and raggedy. FOR REAL. Y’all can go to hell for trying to make this woman feel bad for doing good. STRAIGHT. TO. HELL.”
Although Beyoncé may not have specifically endorsed Beto O’Rourke ahead of Tuesday’s election, it was pretty much a given that she would never have thrown her support behind Ted Cruz. She has always made her political stance very clear and remains close with the Obamas. The Grammy winner is perceived as one of the most polarizing entertainers, with a 66 percent difference in net perception between Democrats and Republicans. According to Morning Consult, Democrats were mostly in favor of the singer while Republicans expressed more negative views.
For what it’s worth, O’Rourke approved of Beyoncé’s endorsement, timing and all.
