You may follow her on Instagram, or have seen her pictures on your favorite makeup inspiration pages. And if you’ve never heard of her, you will learn a lot about her on that Slaylebrity life. In this exclusive interview, Amrezy dishes on her start in the makeup industry plus her tips to growing your social media following, check it out below:
Where did the name “Amrezy” and “Rezy Riders” come from?
Amrezy was actually a nickname I got in high school from one of my classmates. I thought it was cute and funny so it stayed with me since then. Rezy Riders came from one of my fans. One day they commented on one of my photos on Instagram and I thought it was so catchy, so I decided to call my biggest supports Rezy Riders.
Where are you from and where do you currently live?
I am from Brooklyn, New York. Now I reside in Los Angeles.
What made you interested in makeup?
I’ve always been quite fascinated with beauty since I was a little girl. I use to watch my mom getting dolled up and I wanted to be just like her.
When did you become a MUA?
I became a working makeup artist when I got hired at Sephora. I was 22 at the time. Before that I used to do makeup for friends and family.
How long did it take you to perfect your craft?
Honestly it took me a while. Although art came naturally to me, it didn’t always look as good lol. Working at MAC helped out a lot, I got to learn from some of the best artists and through their techniques I picked up my own.
What was most challenging as a new MUA?
Getting comfortable working on clients. It was nerve wrecking at first, mainly because I didn’t want to disappoint the client.
Why do you think you have so many Rezy Riders/supporters?
I think I have so many supporters because I am as authentic as can be. I’m honest with my supporters therefore they can trust me. The best relationships are built off of trust.
What advice do you have for anyone looking to become their own boss?
Find something you love to do and commit a hundred percent. Create your own lane, whatever it is.
How did you blow up on social media?
I started posting pictures constantly throughout the week. The more I posted the more followers I grew. Frequent posting has been a really successful method in growing my audience. People like to follow someone who’s consistent and committed. It keeps them interested.
What are some tips you have to increase MUA’s social media influence?
Post post post! In order to captivate people’s attention they want to see a lot of you. Once they know you’re a frequent poster they will always come back to your page.
What keeps you focused and motivated during stressful situations?
My boyfriend Leonardo. He is not only the love of my life but my biggest motivator. Anytime I feel stressed about a work situation he reassures me.
What do you want people to know about you that they may not know?
I don’t talk about personal stuff too much, but I want people to know I’m very family oriented. My family means so much to me and they are very dear to my heart.
What’s your favorite high end and drug store brand?
My favorite high end brand is Anastasia Beverly Hills. Favorite drug store brand would probably be L’Oréal.
What are some goals you have for the future Amrezy?
I have so many goals. The possibilities are endless. I want to change the world for the better. I want to impact and inspire people around the world! I would love to write a book, have apps, do major brand deals/endorsements. Be on the cover of magazines. Use my voice for the greater good.
Are you still a MUA? Why or why not?
I am no longer a working makeup artist. Although makeup is still very much a big part of my life, I no longer have a passion for working on clients. I grew out of it.
Who did you look up to starting out and who is someone you admire/respect now?
I looked up to and still do to Mario Dedivanovic. He is a major inspiration and his work/art has influenced me over the years.
What have you done so far in your career, that you consider your biggest accomplishment?
One of my biggest accomplishments was collaborating with Anastasia Beverly Hills on the #AmrezyPalette. It was such a huge success and took my career to the next level!
