There’s a huge difference between a “goal digger” and a “gold digger.” I’m sure you can assume the difference just by definition, but let me explain. Gold diggers will never truly become successful. They will never be happy, as they will always live in someone else’s shadow. Goal diggers, however, are the opposite. They will be the happiest you can find, and also the most successful. In this life, there are at least two universal things that everyone wants to achieve: happiness and success. Merriam-Webster defines success as a “favorable or desired outcome,” and happiness as “a state of well-being and contentment.” Now while they’re two separate words, there is a great connection to be made here. Happiness and success go together, let me explain.
If you are successful, you are likely happy and if you are happy, you are likely successful. Right? However, most people fail to recognize what makes them happy. Different things make different people happy. For some, it might be career-oriented success, for others, it might be familial success and for others, it might be something else entirely. If you are reading this, you probably find a certain degree of happiness through your career development. I find happiness through achieving my goals and spending time with those I care about. Whether we are doing something or not, just sitting and even talking brings out a load of happiness.
But, again, there must be a balance between your happiness and finding success. When you are working, work harder than you ever have before. When you are doing whatever else makes you happy, do it more mindfully than ever before. Step out of your comfort zone to achieve something people can only dream of. Take an idea out of your head, put it on paper, and make it into a reality.
Goals are extremely instrumental for success. When you accomplish goals, you will feel greater than you did before. If you are working toward a promotion at work, talk about it to everyone. Find out what steps you need to take in order to achieve your promotion. If you want to start your own website, do it. If you want to spend more time with your friends and expand your social life, make it a goal and execute.
Through achievement comes fulfillment. Everyone harbors different definitions of what success means, but whatever it is, make goals and work toward them. It’s that simple, and as soon as you start making them, you will work toward a better future, however you define what that means. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
