The independent luxury yacht builder Benetti Sail Division, located in Viareggio, Italy, draws on Italian craftsmanship to produce oceangoing steel and aluminium motor yachts up to 50 metres in length.
History
As a young man, Riccardo Benetti started his career working at Fratelli Benetti, his family’s shipyard, learning the trade of building luxury yachts from his father and grandfather. In time, he started his own unit of the company, called Benetti Sail Division. In 1981, Benetti Sail Division became an independent firm, separate from the Benetti shipyard that ultimately became part of the Azimut luxury yacht-building group.
Benetti Sail Division (BSD), still led by Riccardo Benetti, is dedicated to building safe, long-range luxury yachts capable of handling any sea conditions they encounter on their voyages around the world. BSD offers a line of semi-custom yachts and superyachts including the Classic range from 25 to 41 metres; the World Traveller range from 24 to 41 feet, and the new LX Emotion range from 30.5 to 48.8 metres. BSD also offers the Special Edition range of wholly custom superyachts.
Notable Yachts
In 2013, BSD delivered the 30.2-metre superyacht Aleica, a steel-and-aluminium tri-deck motor yacht with an impressive range of 4,900 nm at 10 knots. Although she had a semi-custom, four-stateroom layout, the shipyard accommodated the owner’s request to add a fifth cabin.
BSD launched Blue Berry, a 31-metre superyacht featuring a retro canoe stern, in 2014. Massimo and Verme collaborated on the full displacement motor yacht’s design with Benetti Sail Divison, while naval architecture was provided by CLM.
Specialisations
Benetti Sail Division builds full displacement, oceangoing superyachts with steel hulls and aluminium superstructures. It also offers brokerage services.
